Mil Spec Corrugated Boxes Built to Your Drawing

Military and government shipments leave very little room for guesswork. Your contract names a fiberboard grade, a box style, a closure method, and often a set of markings, and every carton that leaves your dock has to match. PFI takes that entire spec package and turns it into boxes that pass inspection the first time. We source certified W5C and V3C board, fabricate to ASTM D5118, and hold your dimensions to tight tolerances so each box fits the part, the pack, and the pallet.

Whether you need regular slotted containers for spare parts, full overlap boxes for heavy components, or custom inserts and pads cut from matching board, we build the whole package around your requirements.

Every order starts with your drawing, your solicitation, or even a sample box, and ends with a finished carton you can pack and ship with confidence. We review the spec with you, flag anything that looks unclear before production, and supply the paperwork your quality team needs to close out the shipment. Start with a small run to qualify the box, then scale to repeat orders with the same board, the same dimensions, and the same results every time.

Mil Spec Fiberboard Grades and Box Options

The right grade depends on the weight of your contents, how long the items sit in storage, and the conditions they face in transit. We build to the grade your contract specifies, and when the spec leaves room for choice, we help you pick the most cost effective option that still complies.

V3C Corrugated Boxes

V3C is a heavier weather resistant corrugated grade built for demanding military shipments, higher weights, and long term storage in humid or covered outdoor environments. Many buyers specify V3C when contents are dense or valuable and the box has to hold its strength after exposure to moisture. V3C board is commonly supplied with a minimum burst strength around 400 psi.

W5C Corrugated Boxes

W5C is a weather resistant corrugated grade that suits lighter loads, indoor covered storage, and shipments that need moisture resistance without the added weight and cost of V3C. It gives you a compliant, dependable box for spare parts, kits, and smaller components. W5C board is commonly supplied with a minimum burst strength around 275 psi.

ASTM D5118 Box Fabrication

ASTM D5118 sets the practice for fabricating fiberboard shipping boxes, including how the board is scored, slotted, and joined. We fabricate every mil spec box to this practice so the manufacturer's joint, flaps, and dimensions line up with what your inspectors look for.

Regular Slotted and Full Overlap Styles

We produce regular slotted containers (RSC) for everyday mil spec shipments, full overlap (FOL) boxes for extra stacking and top load strength, and other box styles your drawing calls for. Tell us the style code on your spec and we will match it.

Matching Pads, Liners, and Partitions

Interior details often need to meet the same grade as the outer box. We cut pads, liners, sleeves, and partitions from W5C or V3C board so the entire pack out stays compliant and your parts stay protected inside.

Custom Sizes and Short Runs

Military parts rarely fit stock sizes. We cut W5C and V3C boxes to custom inside dimensions, handle small quantities for new or low volume part numbers, and support larger production runs when your contract ramps up.

How We Build Your Mil Spec Boxes

01

Send Your Drawing or Spec

Share your drawing, solicitation, packaging data sheet, or a sample box. We review the grade, box style, dimensions, closure, and marking requirements, then confirm anything that needs clarification before we quote.

02

Fast, Detailed Quote

You receive a clear quote that lists the fiberboard grade, box style, dimensions, quantity, and lead time. For new part numbers, we can produce a sample run so you can test fit and approve the box before full production.

03

Fabrication to ASTM D5118

We fabricate your boxes from certified W5C or V3C board to ASTM D5118, holding tight tolerances on every score and slot. Repeat orders use the same approved spec, so every lot matches the last one.

04

Documentation and Delivery

Each order ships with the documentation you requested, such as a certificate of conformance and board grade certification. We deliver next day across Southern California and ship free nationwide through our distribution network.

W5C and V3C Mil Spec Box FAQs

Both are weather resistant corrugated fiberboard grades used for military and government shipping. V3C is the heavier, stronger grade, suited to dense contents, higher weights, and long term storage in humid conditions. W5C is a lighter grade that works well for smaller parts and indoor covered storage. Your contract or packaging data sheet usually names the required grade, and we build to it.

ASTM D5118 is the standard practice for fabricating fiberboard shipping boxes. It covers how boxes are scored, slotted, and joined, and it is commonly referenced alongside the fiberboard grade in military packaging requirements. PFI fabricates W5C and V3C boxes to this practice.
